16 Confirmed Dead from Maiduguri Rocket Attacks

About 16 people have been confirmed dead as a result of Tuesday’s rocket attacks on Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, according to recent findings.

Hospital officials have revealed that the death toll has risen as more casualties have been discovered after the initial attacks that killed 10.

Borno State governor, Babagna Umara Zulum, had visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and State Specialist Hospital Tuesday night, saying 10 persons were lost and 47 persons injured.

But hospital sources have indicated that the death toll has risen to 16 so far, saying three persons died after the governor’s visit and three more died Wednesday morning.

The source said, “It is sad that six people were lost at both hospitals after initial 10 persons were brought in dead.

“Three died before the break of day and the three others died this morning. We can only pray that no more death is recorded as there are few other persons in critical situations.”

Boko Haram jihadists had on Tuesday killed 10 people and wounded scores with mortar shells in Borno State capital.

The insurgents fired two volleys of explosives on the city, hitting the densely populated Adamkolo and Gwange neighbourhoods.
