2022 QATAR WORLD CUP: Practical prediction for France vs Poland, England vs Senegal games
Qatar World Cup 2022 has proven to be an exciting journey for all football lovers across the globe. Football has truly evolved. Gone are the days when lesser teams sit back and try to reduce the score line to the barest minimum when playing a football super power.
Every game is a fight now and if there is anything we have learnt from the group stages, it’s that every team can be beaten, all three of my tournament favourite were beaten; Tunisia defeated France, Cameroon defeated Brazil and South Korea also defeated Portugal, albeit with some rested key players but a game is a game.
For today’s games, here are my thoughts:
France vs Poland
Based on what I have seen of them so far, if Poland get in the France half, they will be lucky and I will count them good if they manage a few shots on target. With the players they have, I have been utterly disappointed with Poland.
They just don’t seem able to get the ball up the pitch to Robert Lewandowski, who is so isolated. Unless the coach changed that, they will struggle to no end against France. The Poles are big and slow and I think they were lucky to get out of Group C.
France can have a bad day every so often and I know this has been a World Cup of shocks but I only see this going one way. Plus, in Mbappe, France has the deadliest and most complete striker in the World.
His game has evolved so much and I think playing with Messi and Neymar week in – week out for his club, Paris Saint Germans, has helped his understanding of the game.
He can expose defenders one-on-one with his pace; he can create things, he can pull defenders out of positions; he helps the midfield make forward runs and above all, his offside/onside run are better now – in the world today, there is no better complete striker than Mbappe and he will be key for France if they want to win the Mundial.
My prediction: France 3 – Poland 0
England vs Senegal:
When England look across the tunnel at their Senegal counterparts today, they will feel in familiar company. At the back, rugged centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly has been at the top of European football for years and is finding his feet at Chelsea.
Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy won everything last year and is a safe pair of hands. Nampalys Mendy sweeps up in midfield for Leicester City while Ismaila Sarr (Watford) and Iliman Ndiaye (Sheffield United) have looked potent in this tournament.
The African champions were pretty much disappointing when they played the Dutch but, when it really mattered, they turned up against Ecuador. And I think they will turn up against England too but the English firepower up front will be too much for their defence. But this is a tricky game for England.
Senegal will have nothing to lose. Ex-Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, may be the big miss but underestimate Senegal at your peril. This is a warning to Southgate. And I am going for a loads-of-goals prediction.
My prediction: England 4 – Senegal 2
