Decades After Ayinla Omowura’s  Death, His Lead Drummer, Adewole, Dies at 97

The lead drummer in the band of late Apala musician, Ayinla Omowura, Pa AbdulRahman Adewole, is dead, family sources have revealed Tuesday night.

He died at the age of 97 at his Keesi-Arinlese residence in Abeokuta after a brief illness, barely a month after his birthday held in the state capital.

One of his children, Kamilu Adewole announced the death on behalf of the family moments after the octogenarian died.

Kamilu said, “This is to announce to you all that Alhaji AbdulRahman Adewole, Adewole Onilu Ola has passed out.

“He passed out at his residence today (Tuesday) a few minutes ago.”

The family disclosed that the remains of the iconic Apala music drummer will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites at his residence located behind the Emmanuel Anglican Primary School, Keesi in Abeokuta on Wednesday at 4pm.

It would be recalled that the renowned drummer alongside his late boss, late Ayinla Omowura, were known in the Apala music world in the country and beyond, between 1970 and 1980.

Nigerian Sketch recalls that the late Omowura actually referred to Adewole as his boss perhaps out of respect for his age when he said in one of popular songs “iwo loga Omowuramotu.

In another song, Omowura dispelled the rumors of the death of Adewole then when he said “Mo ngbo rumosi kan to nso si Adewole/nto ba wo ni kaluku lo ntoro lowo Oluwa…. Adwole o ku o…..”

Meaning: I have heard some rumours being peddled about Adewole… let everyone pray for what he wants from God…Adewole has not died….”

After the intervention of some elders in resolving a certain misunderstanding between the two, Omowura invoked a heavy cruse on those he believed were instrumental in causing the feud, saying “Eni na pe, to ba gbero pe kama jose, beni, koni ku koni wa laye, a kan ma gbele aye lasan.” Meaning whosoever does not want our relationship to be cordial will neither live or die, but shall only be floating without purpose in life…

Omowura died in his late forties, and death has finally located the legendary drummer in his late nineties.
