Agbede Youth Besiege Police Station in Protest 

Youth in Agbede community, Etsako West local government area of Edo State have besieged the Agbede Divisional Police Station to protest the alleged release of a crime suspect, Salami Abibu.

They told the Nigerian Sketch reporter that the released suspect was alleged to have led a group of gunmen to attack a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Isa Ja Usman, and some members of the party two weeks ago in Agbede.

The Agbede youth besiege police station in Protest, saying they intend to hold down the police divisional office until the suspect is re-arrested and prosecuted according to law.

One of the leaders of the protest who equally speaks for the group, Sadiq Usman, said the suspect was initially arrested on Tuesday September 8 and was handed over to the police at the Agbede police station which in turn allegedly handed him over to the Auchi Police Area Command headed by Ms. Oki Rita Emesim.

He said the suspect was recklessly released by the Auchi Police Area Command, and he had returned to the community on Wednesday to threaten attack on those who caused his arrest in the first place.

The police authorities in the state have not given any official statement on the matter, but an unauthorized statement by a police officer was brought to the police in Agbede in a bad state of health, and that the area commander gave orders for him to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to him, the suspect must have escaped from the hospital, as the police are not aware he has been discharged.
