AKTH Former CMD Dies, Burial Rites at Al-Furqan Mosque Tuesday Morning
One time chief medical director of Aminu Kano Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Professor Abdulhamid Isa Dutse is dead.
Reports say the AKTH former CMD dies on Monday at AKTH after a brief illness.
Details about his state of health prior to his death were scanty but Nigerian Sketch was aware of a passionate call for prayers for the doctor by the chairman of Government College Kano Old Students Association (Class 76), Nasidi Abdullahi, who said the late professor was in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at AKTH earlier on Monday.
The association has also passed out information that his Islamic burial rites would be performed at Al-Fruqan Jumu’a Mosque, Alu Avenue, by 11am on Tuesday
The late professor’s Linkedin details revealed that he attended Government College, Kano; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and other postgraduate courses outside Nigeria. He worked with Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, AKTH as well as King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Riyadh
He was commissioner of health in Jigawa State (1002-1993) and chief medical director, AKTH (2003-2011).
His research focus spanned the fields of HIV/AIDS and immunization against infectious diseases
He supervised a 1996 Pfizer Inc. drug experiment on desperately ill children and oversaw the test of the antibiotic Trovan on children with meningitis.
The test generated so much controversy that the Nigerian officials had to examine the roles he played in conducting the American company’s drug trial.
