APC NEC plans to ratify Ganduje’s appointment as national chair
The National Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is bent on making former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje the national chairman of its governing council.
Reports say the Caucus had perfected moves to clear the legal hurdles that stand in Ganduje way.
Leadership reported that Ganduje’s appointment as national chairman will be ratified today (Thursday) alongside Ajibola Basiru as the national secretary at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting billed to hold at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
It was learnt that at its meeting at the presidential palace last night, the national caucus of the governing party mandated the party’s leadership to work out modalities to clear all legal hurdles impeding the smooth takeover of the former governor as national chairman today.
The caucus was directed to do away with such impediments that might lead to legal action against Ganduje’s leadership.
The medium said Ganduje is expected to assume leadership of the party during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party today if the caucus eventually delivers on its assignment.
Meanwhile, a top party official told Nigerian Sketch Thursday morning that beyong the legal concerns which are being resolved, the polical front is almost clear.
He said Prsident Tinubu demonstarted “political sagacity” by nominating the party’s acting national chairman, Abba Kyari, as a minister of the federal republic.
“With Abba Kyari out of the way, you can also say that a constitutional lacuna has been created which will lead to a new innovation that will give Ganduje a good opening.
“Also, the zoning arrangement of the party can also be tinkered with. The Northcentral to which the chairmanship was earlier zoned will be pacified. Remeber that the zone already has the juicy position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The party with make some repositioning no doubt.”
The notice of the national caucus meeting was issued pursuant to Article 12.5 of the APC constitution.
The NEC meeting is scheduled to hold today in pursuant of Article 25.2 (1) of the party’s constitution.
According to Article 12.5 of APC’s constitution, members of the caucus of ruling party include the national chairman; deputy national chairmen in charge of North and South; national secretary, national legal adviser, national treasurer; national organizing secretary; national woman leader, national youth leader and leader of persons with disabilities.
