Bloody Sunday Night as Gunmen Kill 14 in 2 Plateau Communities

Sunday night was gory for the people of Sabon Layi Village, Kuru community, Jos South local government area and Zogu Village, Miango community in Bassa local government area of Plateau State, as gunmen attacks resulted in no less than 14 deaths.

Reports have it that about 12 were killed in Sabon Layi and two Zogu  as the gunmen exploited the cover of the night to perpetrate their acts while the villagers were deep asleep.

The police however only confirmed the death of 10 people in Jos South LGA

The lawmaker representing Jos South local government area in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Fom Gwattson confirmed the killing of twelve persons in Kuru community to newsmen on Monday, saying it was an “unacceptable“ incident.

According to Gwattson, “Some gunmen last night attacked my constituency and killed twelve persons in Sabon Layi community. I have just been informed of the development and this is completely unacceptable.”

President of the Irigwe Development Association, Ezekiel Bini, also confirmed the killing of two persons in Zogu Village, saying two other persons were injured during the attack.

He said one of those injured was receiving medical attention at the Jos University Teaching Hospital while the second person was moved to another hospital in Miango for treatment.

“Two persons died during the attack last night, while two were injured. It’s unfortunate that we have continued to bury our people on every attack by gunmen without anything being done to stop the killings by the authorities.”

Spokesman of the State Police Command, Ubah Ogaba, told reporters that 10 persons were killed during the attack in Jos South LGA.

Ogaba said, “We had an incident in Jos South LGA. 10 persons, unfortunately, lost their lives but I am yet to get reports on the attack in Bassa.”

According to him, “The Plateau State Police Command received a report that 10 persons were shot dead in a drinking joint at Sabon Layi, Kuru in Jos South LGA by yet to be identified gunmen who drove in with a Hilux and shot sporadically.

“Personnel of the Command and the military have been deployed in the affected area.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and to bring the perpetrators of that dastardly act to book.”
