BREAKING: Kano Veteran Journalist, Abba Ado Gwarzo, Dies
A Kano-based veteran journalist, Abba Ado Gwarzo is dead.
He died Tuesday morning after a brief illness at a hospital in Kano, family sources told his colleagues in Kano.
“It is with total submission to the Almighty Allah SWT Who gives and takes, from Him we came and to Him we shall return, I wish to announce the death of Malam Abba Ado Gwarzo a member of the NGE”, wrote Abdulkadir Ahmad Ibrahim, a former Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) vice president, in a group platform this morning.
Abdulkadir referred to the late Abba as “A reserved gentleman, one of the best Editors and Current Affairs Programme Producers NTA Kano ever had where he started his career in 1978.
“He was also at the Hausa Service of Voice of Germany in the late 80s and early 90s.
“After his retirement from NTA where he also served in Lafiya, Nassarawa State, Abba Ado Gwarzo worked briefly with AIT.
“He is survived by Many Children and Grandchildren and his wife Hajiya Sa’a Ibrahim the Managing Director of ARTV-44 Kano and current Chairperson of BON.
“I lost a friend, a professional colleague and a former classmate at the then Kano State College of Advanced Studies, CAS, Kano, from 1976 to 1978 together with the likes of Late Musa Tijjani, Garba Shehu, Gali Sadiq, Faruk Dalhatu etc. May his soul rest in peace”, Abdulkadir wrote.
Another close friend of the late Abba who worked with him in NTA, Abdulkadir Muhammad, told Nigerian Sketch that “I have lost a friend, a colleague, a brother and an amiable leader – Alhaji Abba Ado Gwarzo…. He was a highly unassuming personality, broadcaster of note who was at the Hausa Service of the Voice of Germany.”
The late Abba will be buried today in Kano.
