CAN, Northern elders fault El-Rufai on Muslim-Muslim ticket claims
The Christians Association Nigeria (CAN) and the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) have said former governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, was only trying to deceive people with religion.
The CAN chairman in Kaduna state, John Joseph Hayab, made this claim while speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday.
According to the Kaduna state CAN chairman, El-Rufai was only pushing his own personal agenda and not speaking for the Kaduna and Nigerian Muslims with his remarks in a recent video earlier in the week.
El-Rufai was seen in a viral video speaking on how Muslim-Muslim ticket has helped the APC retain power in Kaduna State, and how it had also helped President Bola Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election.
El-Rufai, who was addressing a congregation of Muslim clerics (In Hausa) in Kaduna in the video, had said, “Despite all the ethic gatherings and despite the use of religion that was used, God gave Asiwaju Tinubu victory.
“We successfully did it in Kaduna (Muslim-Muslim ticket) has now been replicated all over the country…” he said
But, reacting to El-Rufai’s claims, Hayab said, “This video in the first place is real, because that is El-Rufai for you. If you have known El-Rufai for 20 years and you watch this video now, you will know this is the El-Rufai, because El-Rufai has not changed.
“Let me put it clear, for even thinking that the victory of Asiwaju was a Muslim thing shows that the man is actually living in inferiority complex, feeling people look down on me, people feel I’m not fit to be. So, he says things and act to show his might,”, he added.
Speaking on the Muslim-Muslim ticket and the victory of Tinubu, the CAN chairman said, “Everybody knew that the victory of Asiwaju, whatever others are contesting in the court, is not our concern. It was a collective voting by Christians in the first place.
“Benue state is over 90 per cent Christians, Asiwaju won there, so will you say there were no Christian votes? Rivers state, will you say there were no Christian votes and you can go on and on to look at other states.”
Hayab, however, said the true response of CAN was to ignore El_Rufai, adding, “Ignore the man, who is calling for attention. Ignore the man, who is up to a gimmick. Don’t even take him serious.
It’s fraud – NEF
Also, the national director of publicity of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba Ahmed, has dismissed El-rufai’s Muslim-Muslim ticket in Kaduna State as a fraud.
According to him, “What did he (El-Rufai) do for the Muslims? He demolished their houses. Ninety five percent of the houses and building he demolished belong to Muslims. So for what value has Muslim-Muslim. It’s fraud.
Baba Ahmed stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, while commenting on APC’s zoning of Senate presidency.
He said the legislators should be allowed to decide whom they want to lead them.
According to him, the North Western region should be allowed to produce the next senate president, saying their votes brought President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to power.
“Politicians have poisoned faith. They took it made it a political capital. And they are fooling everybody. The earlier we open our eyes, the better. They are destroying the political process by bring faith into it. They are deceiving people into thinking that they represent a class, which is not true.”
