CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL: Michael Owen predicts big win for Liverpool over Real Madrid
Former Liverpool and Real Madrid star, Michael Owen, has tipped Liverpool to ‘blow Real Madrid away’ in the Champions League final, predicting a big result.
Liverpool face Real Madrid in a repeat of the 2017/18 Champions League final, which the Spanish giants won 3-1.
Owen, though, believes the result will be the reverse from that night in Kiev, Ukraine.
He’s backing Jurgen Klopp’s charges to ‘connivingly’ beat Carlo Ancelotti’s team ‘3-1 or 3-0’ when they meet in Paris on Saturday.
“I think Liverpool are better than Madrid and they could blow them away. 3-1 or 3-0 is my prediction,” he told Sportsmail.
“I think they could beat them reasonably convincingly because they are an exceptional team at the minute and are too good for Madrid.”
The La Liga champions have taken out Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City to reach yet another European showpiece fixture.
Owen acknowledges their impressive run, but believes Liverpool will be able to handle the enormity of the game due to their experience in the competition.
“Madrid have just done phenomenally well to get to the final,” he added.
“I’m sure they believe their name is on the title what with scrapping through the group stage and then of course Chelsea was incredible how they got through that. Manchester City was just mind-blowing how they beat them as well.
“But I think Liverpool are so experienced and so good. They won’t want to get into a grind with them because I think Madrid are the ultimate team when it comes to know-how and winning close games.”
Liverpool have seen off Inter Milan, Benfica and Villarreal to reach their third Champions League final in five years.
They’re looking to claim their seventh European title, with Klopp seeking to bag his second for Liverpool.
