COVID-19 Hits Liverpool Again, as Winger Xherdan Shaqiri Contracts Virus

English Premier League champions Liverpool have to contend with another case of COVID-19 among their players, as winger Xherdan Shaqiri was confirmed to have contracted the deadly virus.

The Swiss player (28) is now the third Liverpool player tested positive for the virus in the space of one week.

Thiago Alcantara who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich first tested positive to Coronavirus before Senegal international Sadio Mane joined him in self-isolation after he also contracted it.

UK Mirror reported that Swiss FA has confirmed the latest about Xherdan Shaqiri.

“In consultation with the health authorities, he is in isolation and clarifications are currently underway with the local health authorities about how to proceed”, the football authority was reported to have said.

This implies that Shaqiri will miss Switzerland’s coming friendly game against Croatia on Wednesday.

He will also miss Switzerland’s clash with Spain on Saturday, as well as their match with Germany next week Tuesday in the Nations League.

Liverpool without Sadio Mane suffered an embarrassing defeat when they lost 7-2 against Aston Villa last Sunday.

They will be traveling to Everton for their next game against Carlo Ancelotti’s men who have won all their four games so far this season.
