COVID-19: Kano High Court Orders Kano Turf Club, Northern States Turf Club to Stop Horse Racing Event

A Kano State High Court on Thursday gave an order restraining chairman of Kano State Turf Club, Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata, the Northern States Turf Club and Kano State government from holding or organizing any horse racing event in Kano on Saturday and Sunday.

A Kano-based lawyer carrying out law practice under Farhan law firm, Bashiru Ibrahim, had filed a Motion Exparte before the court seeking to stop the respondents from carrying out an activity he said “would be inimical to public health and capable of causing loss of lives.”

He told Nigerian Sketch that he had to approach the court after he had alerted all concerned authorities of the dangers of organizing such an event in a state that has been put “on red alert over the third wave of COVID-19.”
