CRIME OR CONTRACT: Four sex hawkers drag man to court over N45, 000 fake alert

A middle-aged man, Oluwafemi Damilola, has appeared before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo, Ondo state, for sending four sex workers fake alert in the sum of N45,000 for ‘service’ rendered him by the women.

The court listed the complainants as Glory David, Akere Bright, Valria Isaac and Ngozi Okoro.

The police prosecutor, Akano Moremi, told the court that the complainants committed the offence in October 2022 at the Sabo area of Ondo, and got arrested by police operatives.

He was charged for a two-count charge bordering on assault and fraud.

“You, Oluwafemi Damilola, sometime in October 2022 at Sabo Road Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by fraudulently having carnal knowledge of Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro.

“That you, Oluwafemi Damilola on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did indecently assault Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro by fraudulently and unlawfully having carnal knowledge of them with the pretence of sending them the sum of N45,000 which you failed to do so but willingly sent them fake alert with aim of defrauding them sexually and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006,” the charge sheet reads.

The police prosecutor, who also told the court he would call five witnesses to establish his case, asked for a date to enable him study the case file.

However, counsel to the defendant, S. A. Iluyemi, told the court that efforts were on to resolve the matter between the two parties, and pleaded with the presiding judge to release his client to him, promising that Damilola would pay the money before the next adjourned date.

Granting the counsel’s application, Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju ordered that the money be paid to the complainants before the next adjourned date.

Adeyanju also said the court’s orderly must confirm the payment and report same back to the court, following which she adjourned the case till June 23, 2023.
