Cristiano Ronaldo accepts Al-Nassr’s €200 million per season offer, to become world highest-paid athlete

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed a record-breaking deal to join Saudi Arabia side, Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo went into his fifth World Cup as a free agent after his contract at Manchester United was terminated by mutual consent.

The decision was taken after Ronaldo’s controversial interview with Piers Morgan, where he slammed the club, manager Erik ten Hag and a number of other key figures.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been busy captaining Portugal in Qatar but MARCA said his next move post-World Cup has already been arranged.

Ronaldo is set to join Al-Nassr on January 1 as a free agent, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal that will see him net a whopping €200 million per season and become the highest-paid athlete in the world.

When broken down, it essentially means the former Real Madrid superstar will earn €26 euros per second in the Middle East.

The 37-year-old had been strongly linked with the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United will move out of Europe for the first time.

In the chat with Morgan, Ronaldo revealed there was a substantial offer from an unnamed Saudi club in the summer window after handing in a transfer request.

He said: “It’s true, yes it’s true… but what the press keeping say, the garbage, is that nobody wants me, which is completely wrong.

“And I was happy here (Manchester United) to be honest, I was motivated to do a great season here.

“But they continue to repeat that nobody wants Cristiano. How they don’t want a player who scored 32 goals last year, with national team [included]?

“It’s hard, it’s hard. But in the same way, I thought that I was very happy here; that I still capable to score goals.”

With one strike that he claimed given to Bruno Fernandes, Ronaldo has now gone two consecutive games without scoring and both he and Portugal will look to get back on track against Switzerland in the round of 16 on Tuesday.
