Deontay Wilder Broke His Hand, Says Trainer to Explain Defeat to Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder Broke His Hand, Says Trainer to Explain Defeat to Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder lost in his bid to recapture the WBC world heavyweight title he lost to Tyson Fury, getting effectively trounced on Saturday, but his coach, Malik Scott, has provided an excuse for his fighter’s failure.

Wilder came up short in his bid to reclaim the WBC world heavyweight title, suffering a 11th round stoppage defeat.

That’s despite having his opponent on the floor twice in a thrilling fourth round.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ dropped the ‘Gypsy King’ on two separate occasions, but failed to capitalise as he was stopped in the penultimate round.

His new trainer has now revealed that the 35-year-old broke his hand during the championship clash in Las Vegas.

“I took him up into his room, he’s seen a doctor afterwards,” he told EsNews.

“Everything’s cool… he busted his lip, he broke his hand, broke his finger, knuckle, something like that.

“But life goes on,” he added.

Wilder was transported to hospital following his loss, but did not stay overnight.

Scott continued by saying he wants the former world champion to take a long break before returning to the sport.

“I really don’t want Deontay talking about boxing or doing anything with boxing for quite some time,” he added.

“I want him to get some good rest, especially after this.

“Even after the last fight he was so worked up. So worked up over the time and in training and was so excited and so happy to win the arbitration.

“He really never got to rest, he deserved a good rest. I’m gonna make sure he gets it.”
