Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who tactically withdrew his defamation case against Daily Nigerian and its publisher, Ja’afar Ja’afar in Kano has returned to court in Abuja to file a new suit.

The governor filed suit No No CU/1598/2021 against Ja’afar Ja’afar and Penlight Light Media Limited, a mother company to Daily Nigerian.

In his Writs of Summons dated 15 July 2021, the court gave Ja’afar 14 days to cause an appearance to be made for his defence.

The writ reads: “You are hereby commanded that within fourteen days after service of this writ o you, inclusive of the day of such service, you do cause an appearance to be entered for you in action at the suit of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje AND TAKE NOTICE, in default the claimant may proceed and judgement may be given in your absence.

The court asked the plaintiff and defendant in the suit to maintain status quo.

Ganduje’s grudge against the plaintiff borders on the later’s publication of videos exposing the governor allegedly collecting wads of dollars and gleefully stuffing them in his pocket. The money was suspected to be bribes from a contractor. The governor claimed that the publication of the video defamed his character and demanded N3 billion from Mr Ja’afar as damages.

Nigerian Sketch broke the news that Ganduje filed an application to discontinue the case before the Kano High Court initially hearing the suit, and his application was granted.

He court however ordered him to pay a total of N800, 000 as cost to the defendants.
