EFCC arrests, detains Bobrisky

Operatives of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested and detained popular social crossdresser, Bobrisky.

Sources at the EFCC who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the press confirmed the development, according to Peoples Gazette on Thursday.

Though details of the arrest remained sketchy as of the time this story was filed, online reports stated that Bobrisky, a controversial cross-dresser in Nigeria, was apprehended in at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State on Wednesday, April 3 and is currently held at the Lagos Command of the EFCC.

Nigerian Sketch however scooped that Bobrisky was detained over allegations of abusing naira notes, spraying naira notes, and currency mutilation.

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest and stated that Bobrisky would face charges related to these offenses. The investigation is ongoing, but Bobrisky is expected to be charged in court soon.

Bobrisky was born in Ebute Matta, Lagos, Nigeria. She attended King’s College and Okota High School in Lagos for her secondary education. Later, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos.

Born male, Bobrisky transitioned to female in adulthood. Through her social media presence, she has shared her journey of transitioning from male to female. Bobrisky uses skin-bleaching products, makeup, beauty products, feminine attire, and hair extensions to achieve her feminine appearance.

Career and Business Ventures

Bobrisky’s primary business involves selling skin-lightening creams along with makeup products, human hair weaves, watches, and fashionable clothing. Additionally, she works as a beauty therapist and leverages her social media influence to generate income.

Family Background

Bobrisky’s father was Alhaji Musibau Okuneye who passed away in August 2023. Her mother is Alhaja Bollington who runs a small shop in Madogo, Ikeja, Lagos. Bobrisky has ten siblings and grew up facing challenges within a polygamous family setting.

Controversies and Influence

Bobrisky has been a controversial figure in Nigeria due to her non-conformity with traditional norms. Despite facing criticism from some quarters of society, she has amassed a significant following on social media platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram.
