EMIRSHIP: Court gives interim order to evict Aminu Bayero from Kano Emirate palace

A Kano State High Court presided over by Hon Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu has ordered that Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero be evicted from the mini palace of Kano Emirate at Nasarawa along State Road in the state capital.

An order is hereby granted to the extent that the Commissioner of Police Kano State should immediately take over the palace of the Emir of Kano situate being and lying at State Road Kano and evict the 1st Defendant/Respondent from the said palace pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice dated 24th May, 2024.

Similarly, the order restrained him, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya from parading themselves as emirs of Bichi, Gaya Rano and Karaye.

The judge gave the order after hearing Ibrahim Isa Wangida, who was counsel to the Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly and the state House of Assembly.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of  Kano State on Friday officially reinstated Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano.

The emir received his letter of appointment from the governor at the Government House in Kano.

“By the powers conferred on me by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and supported by the recommendation of the kingmakers, I have the singular pleasure to confirm the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council,” the governor said.

He said the law has effecteively dethroned Aminu Ado Bayero as emir, and asked Bayero and other four emirs to vacate their places.

But Bayero returned to Kano on Saturday, and the governor gave order for his arrest, although the oder was not complied with by the police who said they are bound by an order of the Federal High Court barring them from enforcing the newly passed law.

Bayero moved into a mini palace alomg State Road.

Monday’s court order has asked the Commissioner of Police in Kano to evict him from that palace.
