Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kano state chapter have tasked Kano State government to ensure the provision of adequate security during the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

NAWOJ stated this in a statement issued at the end of its congress held on 31st October in Kano, urging the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to adhere to its pledge to provide a conducive environment that would ensure free and fair LG elections.

The body also called on the Kano electorates to shun vices that would compromise the planned 16th January 2020 LG polls.

According to the association on another issue, the rise in the cases of extortion and mobile phone theft demands careful crime control measures.

The association expressed concern over the spate of killings resulting from mobile phone snatching across the state metropolis, saying it is a thing of worry that the youth are involved in such a condemnable vice.

Reports of fatalities resulting from incidences of phone snatching in the commercial city have been giving concern to all in the state.
