FG Orders Immediate Opening of Seme, Illela, Maigatari Mfun Borders
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate opening of four land borders into Nigeria.
The borders are Seme in the southwest, Illela in Sokoto State, Maigatari in the northwest, and Mfun in the south-south.
The minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed, made the disclosure on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, said other land borders to be opened by December 31, 2020.
The minister however said restriction on the importation of some commodities like rice and other products would continue to be enforced.
Nigerian Sketch recalls that the federal governments had closed all land borders into the country for year as a means of boosting local productions and economy, but the policy has attracted a lot of criticism for causing so much hardship, which experts said was due to lack of planning.
