FG Suspends NPA Managing Director, Sets Up Panel To Probe Authority
The Nigerian government has set up a panel to probe the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), after the managing director of the authority was suspended.
A media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. The statement was not detailed as it failed to disclose what prompted the probe as well as the issues to be probed.
Shehu simply said Buhari had approved a panel of inquiry on NPA and directed Usman to step aside.
The statement, which Nigerian Sketch got, read, “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendation of the Ministry of Transportation under Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi for the setting up of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
“The President has also approved that the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman, step aside while the investigation is carried out. Mr Mohammed Koko will act in that position.
“The panel is to be headed by the Director, Maritime Services of the Ministry while the Deputy Director, Legal of the same ministry will serve as Secretary. Other members of the panel will be appointed by the minister.”
She was appointed to head the NPA by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday 11 July 2016, and was reappointed in January this year for another five years. She made history as the first female to hold the position in Nigeria.
