Ganduje Flags-off COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Exercise in Kano amidst Mass Apathy

Kano State governor, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje, on Sunday flagged-off mass vaccination exercise for COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He also launched what he called access to care under Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).

The launching, which took place at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, was attended by health experts and development partners.

Ganduje, according to his media aide, Abba Anwar, said the exercise was aimed to achieve effective taming of all stages of COVID-19 pandemic,

He was quoted by Anwar to have said “As we are graduating from vaccination of targeted groups and population, we now open a new chapter, which is called Mass Vaccination.”

The exercise was organised by the State Primary Healthcare Management Agency (KSPHMA) in collaboration with the State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), through the state Ministry of Health.

Ganduje said at the event that, “We took all the necessary measures that were (are) required to tame COVID-19 in the state. That effort was made possible by the Will of Allah.

He appreciated the contributions of Aminu Alhassan Dantata, Aliko Dangote, Abdussamad Isyaka Rabi’u, all health workers and the security agencies for “enforcing COVID-19 protocols.”

Questions have been raised whether vaccination in the state could go round, given the apathy displayed by the people to it, and the government may need to locate appropriate strategies that will convinced the populace to embrace the exercise.

A healthcare expert told Nigeria Sketch that policy makers in Kano State need to work out “modalities that will make people see reason to take the vaccine.”

He said the vaccines must go round the state, especially the remote areas that have do not have working healthcare facilities.
