Ganduje Laments Slow Pace of Work at Falgore Military Training Depot, Says Bandits Dominate Forest

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has urged the Nigerian Army to speed up works at the military training depot in Falgore Forest, saying bandits have infested the area.

“I plead with the Nigerian Army to quickly conclude work on the training depot at the Falgore Forest so that they can take over the forest”, Ganduje said at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday when he visited the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya; the Chief of Air Staff, Oladayo Amao and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral A. Z. Gambo.

He told the Army chief: “I’m also here to seek the help of the Nigerian Army to sustain the peace in Kano State. Bandits have converted some forests in the state into hideouts. The bandits are grouping in Falgore Forest and may be planning to attack our people.

“We’re building houses, schools and hospitals for the herdsmen in some of the forests but we want the Army to commence activities at the Falgore Forest.”

The governor said the bandits might be planning to attack the people of the state.

The Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Yahaya, said the military and other security agencies would contain insecurity across the country.

He pledged to visit Falgore and see how troops would work on the army’s facilities in the forest.

On his part, the Chief of Defense Staff, Irabor expressed appreciation to the government and people of Kano state for the solidarity visit.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the military to support Kano and other troubled states in providing adequate security for law-abiding Nigerians, as well as foreign nationals.

He also said that the military would continue to partner with Forest Guards towards securing the vast forests across the nation.

He also noted that the establishment of a training centre in Falgore Forest by the Nigerian army was intended to meet the security demand in the area.

He commended the Kano state government for providing requisite facilities and structures for the training ground.
