Governor Badaru congratulates Nigeria’s president-elect Bola Tinubu
Jigawa State governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has joined other Nigerian politicians in congratulating the country’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to his special adviser on media and public relations, Habibu Nuhu Kila, in a press release early Wednesday, “Badaru, who was the coordinator of the 19 Northern states in the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said on behalf of himself, the government and people of Jigawa State, has sent his warm and heartfelt congratulations to the President-elect Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu over his victory in the just concluded Presidential election.
“He also thanked the electorates who conducted themselves peacefully during the voting process that brought the victory.”
Kila said “Governor Badaru believes that the President elect will confront with renewed vigor the most urgent problems confronting the country in formulating policies that will improve the living standard of all Nigerians.
“He then pray to the Almighty to guide and protect President elect Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu in the tasks ahead,” the statement ended.
Tinubu defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and 14 other candidates in a keenly contested presidential election.
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced the result at 4.10 am on Wednesday, saying Tinubu got 8, 794,726 votes from the 24,025, 940 total valid votes cast.
He said Tinubu’s closest challenger, Atiku, polled 6,984, 520 votes, while LP’s Obi garnered 6,101,533; while Kwankwaso of the NNPP scored 1,496,687.
Yakubu said Tinubu is returned elected, having satisfied the requirements of the law,.
He said the certificate of return will be issued to the president-elect and the vice president elect, Kashim Shettima, by 3 pm today.
