Gunmen Abduct Edo Head of Service, Kill Driver
Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers Saturday evening kidnapped the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa along Oza Road, in Orhiomwon Local Government Area of the state, killing his driver in the process.
Reports said Okungbowa was returning from a social event organised by a politician in Orhionmwon local government area. A staff in the government house who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “He was kidnapped on his way back to Benin City after attending a local event in Oza. His driver was killed.”
The state Police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached on phone to confirm the incidence.
Incidences of abduction have overwhelmed security operatives in Nigeria of recent, with the bulk of it happening in the North where bandit have made a job out of kidnapping, tasking governments in Katisna, Zamfara, Borno and others.
The federal government has faced a barrage of criticsm for its inability to curtail the incidences of armed robbery, kidnapping, abduction and terrorism that have bedevilled the country, resulting in incessant calls by Nigerians for the federal government to sack the security service chiefs.
