Gunmen Abduct Sharia Court Judge During Court Session in Katsina
A Sharia court judge in Katsina State has been abducted by unknown gunmen while conducting what security operatives suspected to be an unauthorized session.
The judge, Alhaji Hussaini Samaila, was taken at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon in a court at Bauren Zakat village, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The gunmen arrived unannounced and swiftly swept the judge away while onlookers dispersed quietly from the scene.
Noone could ascertain who were the parties before him, and security operatives could still not affirm if there were any court or judicial staff in the court before the gunmen arrived.
It has remained unclear the nature of case or subject of the matter before the judge.
Spokesman for the Katsina police command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident, explaining that “the court has already been relocated from the village to Safana due to security challenge.”
He said the judge the judge did not request police orderly and the “necessary security backup that is supposed to be around when courts are sitting.”
He also denied knowing the nature of business that the judge was conducting on when he was abducted since courts around the country have not been operating for close to two months due to the industrial action embarked upon by the judiciary workers union.
While he assured that investigations are on to locate the whereabouts of the judge, he said there has not been any contact from the abductors.
