How Bandits Outwit Hundreds of Vigilante Guards to Abduct 40 Muslim Worshipers in Katsina

About 40 Muslim worshipers were forcibly taken by armed bandits early Monday morning at a mosque in Katsina State, even though vigilante guards were already on alert and ready to confront them.

The worshipers were observing supplementary prayers known as Tahajjud, which is commonly encouraged during the month of Ramadan.

The incident occurred in Jibiya town of Katsina State, and residents said dozens of gunmen attacked at the mosque around 2am and took away the worshipers.

They told Daily Nigerian that the kidnappers took about 47 worshipers, but seven escaped and returned.

Jibiya town was said to have been on alert as residents claimed they were already informed of the bandit attacks by a neighboring village, but the bandits outwitted them by changing their entry route.

Hundreds of youths and vigilante group members were left aghast as the bandits came in through the western entry point, rather than the eastern point where they were being expected.

While the eastern entry points of Daddara, Kukar Babangida and Magama were fully fortified against the bandits, they sneaked in through Jibawa, went round to the western entry point near Yunusa Dantauri Hospital and attacked the mosque on the outskirt of the town, a resident narrated to Daily Nigerian.

The state command of the Nigerian Police is yet to make any official comment on the incidence.
