Ilorin court dissolves 24-year-old marriage over wife’s stubbornness
An area court sitting at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, on Tuesday dissolved the Islamic marriage of Omoalijana Ibrahim and Kudirat Ibrahim over the woman’s stubbornness.
The judge, Abdulqadir Umar, made the dissolution as sought by the man.
Mr Umar held that the couple’s families failed to settle the case out of court.
He ordered that the woman be properly served the judgment, adding that she must observe the three-month ‘Iddah’ period before she could marry again.
The husband had applied for divorce on May 3, alleging that Ms Kudirat was stubborn and all efforts to change her behaviour failed.
He attributed her failure to appear in court twice to her stubbornness.
The same court had recently dissolved the Islamic marriage between Hafsat Bashir and Bashir Abdullahi, citing irresponsibility on the part on the part of the man.
The judg dissolved the marriage on the insistence of Ms Hafsat and after a failed settlement.
The court also granted her custody of three children and advised the respondent to perform his fatherly role on the children.
Earlier, Ms Hafsat told the court that she wanted a divorce due to suffering and deprivation.
However, she applied for the custody of the children and financial support for their education and maintenance allowance from the respondent.
Before the judgment, the respondent told the court that he did not want a divorce and could only release the third and fourth children.
Mr Bashir said he would hold on to the first child who is in secondary school because he would not want the child’s education to be hindered in any way.
He also said they both (father and mother) agreed that the second child should remain with his relative, as he had been there for a long time before their misunderstanding.
