Islamic Group Sues Kano AG, Seeks Fiat to Prosecute Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara
A religious group, Jama’atut Tajdidil Islamiy Foundation, has filed a suit before Kano State High Court seeking an order of Mandamus to compel the commissioner of police and attorney general of Kano state to institute criminal proceedings against Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara for inciting and blasphemous statements credited to him.
The group also wants to be given room to prosecute the scholar on behalf of the state government.
The group indicated that it felt particularly worried that the commissioner of police and his justice counterpart failed take steps to arrest, investigate and prosecute Abduljabbar before the court for the offences he allegedly committed.
The group also said blasphemy contravenes several sections of Kano State Shari’a Penal Code Law 2000, adding that Abduljabbar conducts his preachings “in injurious manner to Islam and Muslims as whole”
“We are praying court to compel Commissioner of Police Kano who is the Chief Law Enforcer of the State and Attorney General as his capacity of Chief Law Officer of the State to do the needful by arresting, investigating and prosecuting of Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara for what he allegedly committed against Prophet Muhammad”, a lawyer representing the group was quoted to have said.
The group also indicated its readiness to prosecute the embattled scholar if the attorney-general would give it Fiat to so do.
