JUST IN: New Set of Students Abducted in Katsina

JUST IN: New Set of Students Abducted in Katsina

A few days after the 334 schoolboys abducted by bandit in Kankara, Katsina State, were returned, another incidence of abduction has occurred in the state, this time in Mahuta town, Dandume local government area.

Another set of gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the town on Saturday and forcefully carted away many students of an Islamiyya school, Katsina Post reported.

The medium said the Islamic students were abducted on their way back from Unguwar Al-Kasim, a nearby village, where they went for presumably for a Maulud procession.

Nigerian Sketch notes that there are no Maulud processions at the moment, as the period of such processions has long elapsed.

The medium could not ascertain the actual number of the abducted students, but said the vigilante groups in the community have already swung into action to rescue the students.

It said the spokesman, Katsina state police command, Gambo Isah, could not verify the news, as he claimed to be out of the state on an official assignment.

An observer from Katsina State, Lawan Muhammad Dutsimma, has said the incidences of abduction are becoming too rampant, and hinted that bandits may have discovered that it is an easy way to make money.

But Katsina State and the federal government have insisted that they did not pay a kobo to secure the release of the Kankara schoolboys from their abductors even though they said the release was as a result of negotiations.
