Kano Govt House in dilemma as press crew lacks direction

Kano Govt House in dilemma as press crew lacks direction

The press crew at the Government House, Kano State has been exposed to be in shambles.

Nigerian Sketch was informed on Friday that there was a dearth of competent hands to man the strategic department.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s acting media aide, Hisham Habib, failed to leave up to expectation at an occasion that required him step up to the microphone and speak to the audience.

Observers said the governor’s press handlers lack both the composure and the language needed for public oratory. The gap created by their incompetence was so embarrassing to the government that a scout has been mounted for a capable MC.

Our reporter scooped that there have been attempts to bring back a veteran in public oratory, Aminu Kabir Yassar, who has worked with former directors of press and public relations at the Government House for about two decades.

Yassar is said to be currently awaiting the state’s Head of Service to officially annouce his new posting after he left the Government House at the end of the last administration.

The governor had made his Government House media handlers with the mindset to reward those who had remained steadfast with him.

He appointed Sanusi Bature as his chief press secretary. Bature’s appointment was understood to be a compensation for his long-term relations with the governor. He had always issued statements on behalf of the governor as far back as 2019.

Hisham Habib, who was announced as acting Chief Press Secretary to stand in for Bature who travled to Saudi Arabia as head of the media team, had to be compensated for losing his position as the erstwhile chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) who ceded to the Kwankwasiyya movement to take over.

A source close to the government revealed that Habib may be confirmed to replace Bature as CPS, while Bature may be redeployed to head one of the government-owned media houses in the state.

“The government is in dilemma as far as the press department is concerned. This is more so as Sanusi Bature has indicated that he will not work with he existing press crew. He inisted that he will be more comfortable only with the social media”, a source told Nigerian Sketch.

Whatever the case, there is already a gaping lacuna that needs to be filled to avoid major embarrassment to the government in its dealings with the press and the public.
