KANO KILLINGS: Suspected Killer Police in Detention

The Kano command of the Nigerian Police Force has said it had arrested and detained the entire team of the Anti-Daba unit that went for the Saturday operation that resulted into the killing of two young men at Yar’kukah area of Sharada in the metropolis.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed this, saying the commissioner of police, Habu A. Sani, gave the order for their arrest and detention at the state CID while investigations are being carried out on the incidence.

The police stormed Yar’kukah Saturday night to effect some arrests for reasons that are still unknown, and after arresting a certain Ghaddafi Suleiman, his brother, Ibrahim Sulaiman, who tried to demand for reasons for his arrest, was allegedly stabbed in the neck by one of the police operatives, leading to his death.

Another young man in the area, Abubakar Musa, was allegedly shot dead by another police operative.

Reports said the police operative fled the crime scene after the incident, and following reactions from the inhabitants of the area who came out in numbers to protest what they called extra-judicial killing of their neighbours by the police.

There have been calls for investigation into the incidence, which is fast becoming rampant among the police in Kano of recent.

On 19 October, 2020, a similar incidence occurred at Kofar Mata area of the state capital when another young man, Saifullahi Sani, was killed by men of the command during a siege on the area.
