KANO’S COMMISSIONS OF INQUIRY: Ganduje demands probe of Kwankwaso’s era

KANO’S COMMISSIONS OF INQUIRY: Ganduje demands probe of Kwankwaso’s era

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling party the APC has acknowledged the establishment of commissions to investigate various issues during his administration, but demanded that their mandate extends back to 1999.

Parts of the issues to be probed include misappropriation of public funds, wrong allocation of lands and political violence,

Ganduje said he welcomed these probes but suggested expanding their scope beyond his tenure back to 1999 for fairness and transparency.

Ganduje was deputy in 1999 when Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was governor in Kano State. He was again deputy to the same Kwankwaso from 2011 to 2014.

‘Criminal charges diversionary’

Ganduje also responded to the criminal charges filed against him by Kano State government, criticizing Governor Abba Yusuf for what he called diversionary tactics to cover up governance failures.

Ganduje accused Governor Yusuf of using probes and charges as a smokescreen for governance failures. He emphasized adherence to legal processes and transparency in governance.

He said the accusations against him were baseless and highlighted legal rulings that questioned the jurisdiction of the state government in prosecuting federal offences.

He refuted the allegations, pointing out a recent Federal High Court ruling that classified the offences he was accused of as federal crimes falling under the jurisdiction of national bodies like the Attorney General’s office and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ganduje expressed confidence that the attempts to tarnish his reputation would fail due to their lack of legal basis.

Governor Abba Yusuf initiated legal actions against Ganduje and others, accusing them of financial misconduct.
