Kano’s Gov Yusuf orders Police to arrest deposed Emir Aminu Bayero

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The order was contained in a statement Gov Yusuf’s spokesman Kano, Sanusi Bature.

The governor said Bayero should be arrested for allegedly creating tension in the state.

The statement titled ‘Gov. Yusuf Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero,’ read:

“The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for creating tension in the state.

“The former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

The statement further said “As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”

Bayero, whose whereabouts had been unknown since he was deposed on Thursday returned to Kano on Saturday.

It was confirmed that the new Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace in the company of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other top government functionaries at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

Bayero’s return

In the early hours of Saturday, Aminu Ado Bayero returned to  Kano and was met by a crowd of supporters.

The aircraft which conveyed the monarch touched down at the Aminu  Kano International airport at 4:30am, according to reports.

He was immediately thronged by his supporters, who were chanting a verse from Surah Al-Fatihah in the Holy Qur’an.

“You (alone) we worship, and you (alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).”

While some others were saying, “God the Almighty will punish your enemies.”

The former Emir, who was fully dressed in royal regalia, did not respond to the crowd as he took his steps consciously.

He later observed Subhi (dawn prayer) at the airport.
