Minister of Agric’s Brother Abducted by Gunmen, as Kidnappers Have Field Day in Nigeria

Nigeria’s minister of agriculture, Sabo Nanono’s brother has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, Nigerian Sketch has learnt.

Family sources told our reporter that the gunmen bushwhacked the country home of the minister Sunday night and bundled away the brother whose name was given as Babawuro Tofai.

The Kano command of the Nigerian Police Force has not confirmed the incident, but sources have said Tofai was taken forcefully at gunpoint while those present at the time were helpless in the face of the menacing abductors.

Our source said the police were alerted soon after the gunmen left and “a few of us were interrogated about what transpired.”

As cases of abduction escalate unabated in Nigeria, particularly in the North, citizens have continued to express worries at the inability of governments at all levels to arrest the situation.

A US-based Kano State citizen pursuing his Doctorate Degree at the University of Texas, Arlington, Texas, Fahad Ibrahim Danladi, has taken to the social media to lament the situation.

Fahad Danladi Ibrahim is unhappy about the state of insecurity in Nigeria

He asked in a worrisome tone, “Who is safe in Northern Nigeria?”

“Prior to 2015, only insurgents attack place of worship. Last week, bandits kill 5 worshippers, kidnapped Imam, 40 others during Muslim prayers in Zamfara state. Churches and Mosques are no longer safe place in Northern Nigeria due to rising cases of insecurity”, he wrote on his Facebook page.

He added that “In addition to poor state of roads in Nigeria, commuters are finding it difficult to ply Nigerian roads because of kidnappers. University students were recently kidnapped along Abuja – Kaduna express way while en route Lagos for an academic program. Three final year students of ABU were also kidnapped. Kidnappers are having free day in many federal highways across Northern Nigeria, thereby making the roads un-motorable.”

He also said “Insecurity has metamorphosed to another level. The police, which have constitutional duty of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians were recently kidnapped. Last week, a report by BBC Hausa has revealed that suspected bandits have kidnapped 12 police officers along Katsina-Zamfara expressway.

“First responders are also not safe in Nigeria. This year, four aid workers and a private security worker were abducted by insurgents in northeast Nigeria. They were letter killed in cold blood.

To make the story worse – political, traditional and religious leaders are also not safe in Northern Nigeria. The chairman of the ruling party, APC Nassarawa state was kidnapped in his residence and later killed by kidnappers. A member representing Dass constituency, Musa Mante Baraza in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, was killed by unknown gunmen. Last year, Hon Suleiman Ibrahim Dabo a member of Kaduna State House of Assembly Representing Zaria Constituency was kidnapped along Zaria – Kaduna highway”, he said.

He added that his concern was “how Nigeria’s President Buhari is unperturbed about the rising insecurity in Northern Nigeria. The service chiefs have over stayed their tenure and he show no sign of removing them, even though they have failed to discharge their duties as expected. Most of our security heads are displaying highest level of incompetence.

“In my entire life, I have never seen insecurity deteriorating to this level. I begin to wonder, who is really safe in Nigeria?” he concluded.
