Akpata to Meet with Lawyers in Kano
The president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata is expected to storm Kano City on Thursday, as he is scheduled to meet with members of the association in the state.
Details of the purpose of the meeting remains scanty as of the time this story was published, but the secretary of the Kano branch of the NBA, Haruna Saleh Zakariyya sent a general invitation to members of Kano and Ungogo branch, saying the president wil hold what he called “a consultative meeting” with members on Thursday by 2:30pm at the NBA Kano secretariat situated at No. 2, Guda Abdullahi Road, Farm Centre, Kano.
Nigerian Sketch reports that Mr Akpata would be going to Kano for the first time since he was elected president of the NBA earlier in the year.
His administration started with a huge challenge, part of which resulted from the election that brought him in. He also inherited a crisis from the previous administration of Mr. Paul Usoro, resulting from issues surrounding invitation of speakers to the association’s annual conference.
Akpata has had to grapple with threat of balkanisation of the NBA as well as the attorney-general of the federation’s far-reaching amendment to the Rules of Professional Conduct which the president claimed he was was not consulted before it was done.
