NSF2020: Kano Promises Gold Medalists N.5 Million

The executive chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Galadima, has assured that every gold wining athletes at the forthcoming National Sports Festival billed to hold in Benin City, the Edo State capital, will receive N500, 000 largesse from the state government, while “silver medal winners will get N300, 000 and bronze medalists N200,000 prize money.”
Galadima disclosed that a 276-man contingent will depart Kano for Edo State in batches, commencing from 1st April.
The contingent, comprising of athletes, coaches, medical officials and sports journalists, will represent Kano state at the forthcoming 20th edition of the National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Benin, Edo state capital.
Galadima, during a press briefing held at the commission’s conference hall on Thursday, stated that 199 athletes will compete for laurels in 21 events, adding that other members of the contingent are coaches, back room staff, journalists and medical personnel.
According to him, the athletes will proceed to observe a close door camping exercise to boost their preparations prior to their departure to Edo for the fiesta.
“Kano came 8th position at the last festival, held in Abuja, we are working to improve on that. With the several postponements suffered by the festival since March 2020, it has really been tough morally and financially”, Galadima lamented.
He assured that the state will parade a mix blend of experienced and young talents, while thanking the state government for its investments to ensure the state is on parade at the forthcoming games.
