PCACC Reacts to Calls to Probe Ganduje, Says Videos were Doctored

The chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has challenged all those who are interested in the investigation of the state governor to come forward with concrete materials that his commission could work with.

Muhuyi was reacting to a story earlier published by Nigerian Sketch where citizens challenged him to investigate video clips showing the governor allegedly receiving bribes from a contractor.

The chairman said in a short text message he sent to Nigerian Sketch that his commission has “never authenticated any video as genuine. As per (sic) as we are concern (sic) the video is more doctored than being (sic) and this has been the people of any sensible and rational thinking people. The press shall not speak for us, they should have allowed us to say things other than speaking on our behalf.”

Visibly angry with the continuous call for his commission to probe the governor, Muhuyi agreed that he received the letter from a certain Kano Concerned for Prudent Leadership asking PCACC to carry out an investigation into the matter, and telling him that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has since authenticated the videos as genuine.

He reacted by saying his commission has not authenticated the videos. But the copy of the letter that Nigerian Sketch received and the story it published did not say his commission authenticated any video.

He went as far as saying the videos were doctored and cannot pass legal scrutiny.

Muhuyi said journalists should not behave like “hungry dogs” by giving credence to issues that are non issues, adding that the petition sent to him by the non-governmental organization was never adopted.

“We told them we needed a statement from them and that they should come forward to adopt their letter but they never came. In fact, they do not have an address,” he said in a phone chat with Nigerian Sketch.

Ha also said he assured them that his commission protects its sources in case they are afraid, “but they never came. If they are sincere, why did they refuse to come?

He expressed the opinion that no governor in Nigeria has institutionalized the fight against corruption like Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
