Police arrest four suspected kidnappers, rescue 4 victims in Kwara
Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers around Oro-Ago forest in the Ifelodun local government area of the state.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, the first female Police commissioner personally led her officers at the weekend on another special tactical team on search-and-rescue operation into the forests within Isin town, in the Isin local government area of the state.
“In the process, four kidnap victims, recently abducted, were rescued”, the statement said.
The PPRO also said that the four arrested kidnap suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
The Command, which said that the rescue effort was complemented by local hunters and vigilantes, added that one of the four rescued kidnap victims, identified as Femi Ajayi, who had bullet injury, was brought to the health centre in Isanlu-Isin, “where he is currently receiving medical attention”.
“In the unfortunate kidnapping incident that took place in Isanlu-Isin on July 13, 2023, at about 17:00 hours, the following victims were abducted between Ijara-Isin and Isanlu-Isin: 1. Dipe Ajayi 2.Kunle Abolarin 3. Femi Abolarin, and 4. Femi Ajayi, all of Oke-Aran, Isanlu-Isin.
“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit stationed within the Isin axis, local hunters and vigilantes swung into action and gave the abductors a hot chase, leading to the abandonment of the Siena bus conveying the victims at the time of incident and one of the victims named Oke Olatunji was rescued by the team.
“Today (Saturday), the CP personally led another special tactical team on search and rescue operation into the forests within Isin, in the process another victim identified as Femi Ajayi, with bullet injury was rescued and brought to the health centre in Isanlu-Isin, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
“At the palace of HRH Oba Olugbenga Oloyede Solomon the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, The CP met vigilantes, hunters and other community leaders, where issues affecting the area in general were discussed and strategies and plans were implemented to forestall any further ugly occurrences.
“Meanwhile, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi inspected the police post in the town and promised to increase the number of officers in the station to further enhance the safety and security of the people in the area”, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the reported killing of two persons by lightning in Oro Ago community, explaining that the victims of the lightning attack were herders and not kidnappers.
