Power-drunk wife of DSS DG bars Kano governorship candidate from boarding flight, orders his arrest
“The show of shame by the uncultured wives of Nigerian politicians is becoming so embarrassing that we must begin to question the domestic authority of their husbands.”
That was how a security personnel at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, described the incident that involved Aisha Yusuf Bichi, the wife of the director-general of the Department of State Services, DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi at the airport Sunday night.
Reports said Aisha ordered the detention of the Kano governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Abba Yusuf, and ensured that he did not board Max Air flight from Kano to Abuja.
Eye-witnesses said the politician caused an unnecessary and disruptive traffic jam at the gate of the VIP lounge of the airport, in the usual annoying way that Nigerian politicians do.
Mrs Bichi, who was obviously annoyed by the delay she suffered as a result of the politician’s activities, allegedly ordered her security guards to clear her path by all means. This, eye witnesses said, resulted in the beating of people and knocking of vehicles that blocked access to the controlled area of the airport.
“Our politicians too can be very uncivilized. They do not respect people’s right of way. They behave so crudely”, the security personnel said.
A source said when the politician tried to reason with the angry woman afterwards, she abused him and vowed not allow him to be a governor in Kano State.
She also ordered that a political tout, Garba Kilo, who was recording the incident with his phone, be beaten up, as she said she will get him killed “and nothing will happen”.
Mrs Bichi eventually had her way, using DSS personnel to detain Abba while she boarded the flight, leaving him stranded.
All entireties by the state director of DSS to make her see reason fell on deaf ears. The confused state director therefore pleaded with Abba to go back home.
Even the efforts of the police DPO in charge of the airport to settle the matter amicably was rebuffed by the angry Aisha, as she refused to give her statement to the police.
Only recently, Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, ordered the arrest and brutalization of an undergraduate who criticized her on Twitter. She was alleged to have sent security personnel after some other critics, three of them already arrested.
