PROBE: Suspended Kano Anti-Graft Agency Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji, Demands Fair Hearing
Lawyer to the suspended chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Mr Usman Umar Fari, Esq has said that his client demands to be accorded his constitutional rights to fair hearing and fair trial.
Muhuyi was slated to appear before the House today (Wednesday) in connection to the petition against him submitted by the accountant-general of the state. The petition formed the basis upon which he was suspended.
The suspended chairman did not appear before the House as scheduled but his lawyer said he has submitted a letter on the same day (Wednesday) to the lawmakers to indicate that his client has been in Abuja for medical concerns as of the time the House’s invitation letter was delivered at his house.
Fari also said he was requesting to be given a certified true copy of the “House resolution/proceedings of 5th July 2021 concerning the issue under reference.”
He equally demanded in his letter to be given “certified true copy of the press releases dated 5th and 7th July 2021 issued by the House of Assembly which form the basis of the news items clearly portraying our client as a sacked or removed chairman as restated in paragraph 2 line 2 of the letter dated 12th July 2021 to wit: ‘investigating a complaint against you as the then Chairman…’”
He said in his letter that his client is ever willing to honour the invitation of the House, but should be given “adequate time in line with medical advice of his physicians.”
Fari told newsmen that apart from the letter of invitation “dumped” at his client’s residence, the suspended chairman has not received any other document from the House.
“He has not even received any document indicating that he was suspended.”
