PROPHETIC: Lennox Lewis predicted Tyson Fury’s legs will not hold if he gets hit on the chin

PROPHETIC: Lennox Lewis predicted Tyson Fury’s legs will not hold if he gets hit on the chin

Not many boxing fans know that former heavyweight undisputed champion, Lennox Lewis, actually accurately predicted what happened in Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk unification bout in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Lewis, the last undisputed champion before Usyk, had raised his concerns over Fury’s new physique prior to the clash.

Fury came to the fight to defend his WBC belt against Usyk, who put his WBA (super), IBF and WBO titles on the line when they met on Saturday.

The Riyadh showdown crowned Usyk as undisputed heavyweight champion for the first time since 1999 when Lewis outpointed Evander Holyfield to claim the status.

Lewis, a boxing legend, had shared his thoughts on Fury’s physique. Fury came to the fight a lot a lot leaner and weighed considerably lighter than his last appearance against Francis Ngannou last October.

Lewis, prior to the fight, said lighter frame will allow Fury to move a lot quicker around the ring, but revealed his concern for the ‘Gypsy King’.

He said: “To me, being a bit lighter makes him move a lot quicker and he doesn’t have a lot of weight with him so he can move around, glide around the ring.”

Lewis, however, believed Fury’s legs look a ‘bit skinny’, explaining they won’t be able to hold him up if he gets tagged on the chin.

The 58-year-old was quoted by SportBible to have added: “But the only thing it takes away from him is the legs. His legs look a bit skinny. And legs are like a cushion… like a spring for a shock for if you get hit on the chin. Your legs hold you up. So, I’m concerned about that.”

True prediction

Experience is an asset, and it appeared that Lewis’ experience in boxing was neglected to Fury’s detriment. He actually got hit on the chin by Usyk in the ninth round and his legs gave. Subsequent rounds tilted scorings in favour of the Ukrainian, who won the fight via split decision.
