Rain of Blows at Kano APC Rally
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano on Saturday held a political rally at the Sabon Gari Stadium to receive decampees from other parties into its fold, and rain temporarily fell, sending attendees into troubled search for shelter.
But the rain of blows that followed diminished the agitations that attended the earlier rainfall.
APC was said to have organized the rally mainly to celebrate what a party member called “a big catch” from the Green Party of Nigeria (GPN), a certain governorship aspirant, Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura. Of course, decampees from various other parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) inclusive, were received by the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Zaura had contested for the governorship of the state under his former party, GPN and was thereafter prosecuted for allegations of financial fraud, a charge he was later acquitted of.
At the time Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, While Rt Hon Hamisu Chidari, was on the podium to give his goodwill message, some of the party members in attendance started exchanging blows.
It was not clear what caused the fight as of the time this story was published, but Nigerian Sketch noted that there was reckless display of arms like machetes, daggers and knives, even as young men were seen smoking banned substances in the open.
