Remo Stars get first win against Pillars, as Doma, Bendel Insurance also win

Kano Pillars have again fallen to yet another defeat following a 2-1 loss to Remo Stars in matchday 34 of the 2023/24 StarTimes-Nigeria Premier Football League on Saturday.

It was an intense and cagey affair at the Remo Stars stadium in the early minutes of the game but in the 10th minute, Ahmed Akinyele opened the scoring with a header. Spurred by the goal, the home team created several chances but missed them as the first half ended 1-0.

Upon restart of the second half, Salisu Mustapha scored the equaliser in the 48th minute. Stunned by the goal, the home team desirous of earning their first win over their visitors, increased the game’s tempo, creating up several chances.

The game had seemed destined for a draw until captain Nduka Junior scored the winner in the last minute of added time to grab all three points for the hosts.

It will be noted that Remo Stars who prior to this game have never defeated Kano Pillars in the five games they have played against each other, are now one point behind league leaders, Enugu Rangers with four more matches to the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Doma United who had won just two times in their last 17 matches started the game against Lobi Stars with desire to turn around their season at the Pantami Stadium.

Barely three minutes into the encounter, a great chance fell to Musa Usman, but the forward could only direct his effort wide. Usman will, however, give his side the lead in the 33rd minute, as he directed Bidemi Owoku’s cross past the goalkeeper to net the game’s only goal.

Defending champions, Enyimba will trade tackles with Rivers United while Kwara United will be guests to Niger Tornadoes.
