RESIGNATION: APC NWC to decide on Adamu’s alleged quit notice
There are insinuations that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, has issued a notice to quit his position Sunday night.
A section of Nigerian media reported that party sources have confirmed that Adamu has sent a resignation letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but party officials have refused to say anything on the matter as at of the time this story was published. Noone seems to know anything about the alleged quit notice.
It appears that members of the party’s National Working Committeee (NWC) who spoke with Nigerian Sketch are feigning ignorance because Adamu took his decision unilaterally without consulting them.
APC’s national publicity director, Bala Ibrahim, told Nigerian Sketch that the party’s National Working Committee will meet, and “that is where things will be clear to everyone.”
Adamu was said to have sent his resignation letter to the Presidential Villa, Abuja ahead of the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.
Daily Trust quoted a source to have said Adamu sent his resignation letter to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4pm on Sunday.
But another source said his resignation letter was sent to the President via Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma.
Meanwhile, shortly after the news of Adamu’s possible resignation broke, the National Youth Leader of the APC, Dayo Israel, posted “Fake News” on his Twitter handle, @dayoisrael.
No reason has been given for the alleged resignation, but quoted sources tend to belive it was a preemptive move to avoid being removed at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
“He has resigned. The resignation letter signed by him has been sent to the villa. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu. But since the president is away in Kenya for the AU meeting, the letter was sent to his chief of staff,” a source was quoted to have said.
“He resigned because they have started to collate signatures to impeach him during the forthcoming meetings. He resigned to save himself from humiliation,” another source said.
Adamu has also refused to comment on the matter, saying “I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away.”
Adamu emerged as the national chairman at the party’s national convention held in March 2022.
