Rufai Hanga picks Shekarau’s NNPP senatorial ticket

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga has been chosen as the Kano central senatorial district ticket of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Hanga got the ticket which was relinquished by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who defected from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The affirmation of Hanga was held on Thursday at the Sani Abacha Youth Center in Kano led by the Kano Central chairman of the NNPP, Abdullahi Zubair, and witnessed by hundreds of party faithful across the 15 local government areas that make up the senatorial district.

Shekarau, recently left the NNPP for the PDP, following some unresolved disputes.

He accused Kwankwaso of lack of political fidelity, saying Kwankwaso refused to be faithful to the agreement between the two which preceded their incompatible political marriage in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Shekarau had earlier dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a result of rift with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and lamented the way he said Kwankwaso neglected the request he (Shekarau) submitted for the inclusion of his associates as party’s candidates.

He said his numerous reminders to Kwankwaso before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were not heeded.

PDP bigwigs, including the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, were in Kano for the defection of Shekarau.

Rabiu Kwankwaso, NNPP’s presidential candidate, has insisted that Shekarau’s defection would not affect his party’s chances in 2023.
