Seun Kuti reacts to IGP’s arrest order, says assaulted police may lose job

Nigerian Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has reacted immediately on arrest order by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over his assault on a police officer.

The incident, captured in a viral video, showed Kuti slapping a uniformed officer.

The IGP, in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest Kuti.

Reacting to the arrest order on his Instagram story, Kuti said the policeman tried to kill him and his family and that he had apologised.

He said he had agreed not to press charges against him because he apologised, saying he had proof to show for his action.

“He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He apologized and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no go lose him job.

“I welcome the investigation and will give my full cooperation. I also pray to the IG that whoever is wrong should be indicted,” he said.

IGP’s order

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.

The IGP equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

The IGP further stated that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders will be brought to book.
