Suicide in Afonja as Kwara Billionaire’s Grandson Dies
Subomi Olobayo, the grandson Prince Samuel Adedoyin, a multi-billionaire, was reported to have died in a suspected suicide attempt.
Sources on Thursday said Subomi, 28, was found dead on Tuesday in a situation that suggested that he committed suicide using a bed sheet around his neck. His body was reportedly discovered around 5pm at the backyard of his parents’ residence in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The deceased was the first son of Prince John and Lola Olobayo, one of the daughters of the famous Adedoyin.
He was thought to have left the house around 11am, and noone thought there was any danger around him, as his absence did not raise any alarm.
Insiders however said Subomi had been battling with depression for some time.
“His mother travelled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, for a function on Tuesday. Subomi became suddenly moody and withdrawn sometime ago, but he had a particular girlfriend that usually changed his mood for better anytime she came around,” a source was reported to have explained.
Some members of the family have been demanding for an investigation into the alleged suicide of the young man.
As of the time this story was published, members of the family are said to be on their way to Ilorin today (Friday), to commence arrangements for his burial.
The police in Kwara State said the death of the young man had not been reporte, according to the state police command’s public relations officer, Ajayi Okasanmi Ajayi.
