Sunday Igboho Succumbs, Suspends Lagos Rally for Yoruba Nation
Yoruba secession agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), has succumbed to pressures to suspend the planned Yoruba Nation Rally slated to take place in Lagos on Satuday.
Igboho told BBC Pidgin Service on Thursday, that the rally has been suspended, claiming that two people were killed in his house when the security agents, including soldiers and DSS operatives, invaded his residence early Thursday.
He said, “What I am doing is to fight for my people and all my rallies have been peaceful. I have been fighting for my families against their killing by bandits.
“Two guys were killed around 2 pm when the shooting was too much. They destroyed all my properties, my vehicles…”
It was not immediately clear what prompted to call off the rally between the raid on his house and the continuous calls from influential elders of Southwestern Nigeria, who expressed fears that the rally may result in chaos.
Igboho has previously persistently insisted that similar rallies have been held in other parts of the Southwest without any issue.
Nigerian Sketch reported that Igboho’s residence was attacked in the morning by people his associates claimed were Nigerian soldiers.
His wife was said to have been whisked away while some people loss were killed.
Recall that the Omo Ilana Oodua, a Yoruba self-determination group, has remained supportive of Igboho and his planned rally.
