Tinubu drops Shetty as minister, nominates Keyamo, Mairiga
President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn Dr. Maryam Shetty as ministerial nominee from Kano State, and replaced her with Mr. Mahmood Mairiga, also from Kano State.
He also nominated Festus Keyamo and forwarded the two for Senate confirmation as ministers.
The development has therefore brought the second batch of ministerial nominees to 20.
The number of the ministerial nominees so far sent to the red chamber for screening and confirmation now stands at 48.
This is contained in a letter sent to the Senate and read by the President of the Senate, Godwill Akpabio on Friday.
Shatty’s initial nomination sparked controversy in Kano State where differing forces assumed that certain politicians were supposed to be picked rather than her.
How expressed their doubt about her competence while others doled out her resume to indicate that she was more competent than a lot of other known politicians.
It is not clear yet why she was withdrawn and replaced, as the presidency refused to offer any explanation.
Keyamo, on the other hand had been ridiculed by Nigeriams on the social media after Tinubu’s second batch of ministerial list came out without his name.
Nigerians, especially from the opposition parties mocked him, saying he was left out despite sticking out his neck for the president during the 2023 general elections.
Now that Tinubu has picked him, he may have respite.
